Chris Raven's Academy range is based on his research into early flutes, particularly those by Carlo Palanca (c1690-1783). He has followed Palanca's use of a larger oval embouchure hole to produce an easy-blowing, responsive, and powerful instrument.

These flutes are beautifully made in Chris Raven's own workshop, where he has complete control over the process. They have very good intonation, a wide dynamic range, and there are plenty of colours to explore. They are used by early-music specialists, but also by players of modern silver flutes who find them easy to pick up and enjoy. Comes in a neat soft roll, with a cleaning stick and a bottle of Tung oil.
