Many Rudall Carte players fit a modern wooden headjoint because it brings out the best of these classic flutes. So we have combined a lovely Rudall Carte from 1911 with one of our Grenadilla S3 headjoints. Fitted with a silver lip insert, the headjoint brings crisp articulation, good intonation at modern pitch, and a rich full sound right down to the bottom. As if that were not enough, we are also adding one of our Grenadilla collars to fit over the flute's cork tenon.

The flute's keywork is light and feels comfortable under the fingers. There are no cracks apart from the usual tiny hairline by the Eb that we have repaired. Padding is good and the action is quick and nimble. With the Haswell S1 free-blowing headjoint the flute soars, giving a wide dynamic range, an evenness of sound throughout the registers, and extra-fine articulation from the silver lip insert.
