Marked: SICCAMA/PATENTEE/LONDON/902
This original flute by Abel Siccama is a good player. The embouchure and tone holes are original and in very good condition. It plays with a strong rich sound with good intonation. The two Siccama keys are in place and work as they should.
This flute was repadded and prepared by George Ormiston; we have checked it over and made a couple of adjustments, so it is ready to go.
Abel Siccama worked on his own design at a time when the modern Boehm flute was still in development. He placed LH3 and RH3 tone holes in the correct position for accurate intonation, and used a pair of padded keys set along the body to close these. It was a simple yet effective way of overcoming the problem. These keys can wear, but in this example they still close accurately and consistently. The workmanship on these flutes is generally acknowledged to have been of the highest order.
